The Aurora Rooftop Bar is located in the 10th district directly in the new central station district in the Hotel Andaz. You just have to go to the 16th floor to see the northern lights. The Aurora Rooftop Bar is very tasteful and cozy. It is one of the new generation of restaurants in Vienna that pay great attention to appearance and quality. Coziness in every season is important here.
Every person’s taste is different. Some like colorful diversity and others love minimalism. Lately I’ve been really into minimalism. Because in a restless and stressed everyday life, this simplicity brings me calm again. And in my opinion that is also the goal of the Aurora Rooftop Bar. To look out over the noisy Vienna from this height and to find inner peace and let yourself be warmed by the fireplace.
Of course, the right cocktails and small snacks help with that.
The Aurora Rooftop Bar has various offers for the perfect end to the evening. There is the culinary hamony – a 3 course menu with unique cocktail pairing. Or if you’re slightly hungry, there’s a large selection of bar snacks. This goes from small to large, i.e. from marinated olives to poached salmon trout. What is also very special here is that there is a cocktail recommendation for every bar snack. It’s really interesting to read all the recommended creations.
A highlight for me when browsing through the menu was seeing that all the cocktail themes represent the Nordic countries. A clever and appropriate idea. The whole theme is somewhat reminiscent of the Viking Age, but with a modern twist. There are a lot of smoky but oh-so-sweet cocktails. Another special that is offered in the Aurora Rooftop Bar is that you can also be surprised and the bartender serves a specially created cocktail.
We decided on an espresso martini and a penecillin. Penecillin is a cocktail for strong nerves. It consists of Johnny walker black labe, ardbeg, ginger syrup and lime. As a snack I had the beef tartare with orange, shallot and freshly baked, still warm sourdough bread. It was very flavorful and nicely presented. – I was just missing a little butter. As another bar snack, we tried the Aurora Cubano sandwich with pulled beef, cheddar and dijonnaise. Fancy!
It’s not for nothing that they say that the happiest and calmest people live in the north, when you can have an experience like the Aurora Rooftop Bar every day. The play of light on the ceiling bathes the room in a different, soft color every second and you actually feel as if you were sitting underneath it in real life. The cocktails with it were really strong. Which isn’t bad, but I couldn’t drink more than one. I should probably practice that a little bit more.
The only complaint I have is not directed directly at the Aurora Rooftop Bar, but rather at their guests. If you go to such a beautiful and “classy” bar, then please dress like that! There’s nothing sadder than finally finding a nice place in vienna and seing some people look like they’ve fallen out of bed. Perhaps the dress code information should be presented a little more clearly. Otherwise, I think the bar is very nice and can’t wait to sit on the terrace in the summer.
