Cafe himmelblau is the IT location for breakfast in the 18th district at the Kutschermarkt in Vienna. It may not be the fanciest cafe in Vienna but it is certainly one of the coziest. This is about meeting friends and eating a good, typical Viennese breakfast, which comes directly from the market opposite. So it doesn’t get any closer than that.
From the outside, the cafe is located in a historic building and only the subtle blue lettering indicates the shop. The interior reminds you as if you were visiting friends. Simple furniture and lots of decoration. No matter where you look you can always discover something new, such as the beautifully painted ceiling. The cafe invites you to have breakfast with friends in peace and chat.
Cafe Himmelblau relies a lot on fresh and regional ingredients, which they buy directly at the market in front of the door. This means they create new delicacies every week, regardless of the dish. Everything is prepared fresh on the same day, just as you imagine. Because you notice more and more that regionality and, above all, healthy food are becoming more and more important to young Viennese people. So this cafe is perfect for that.
The breakfast selection includes classic and delicious dishes – I couldn’t decide which one I would prefer. I then decided on a “Viennese classic”. Here he is called “the charming one”. A slice of chive bread, a slice of jam bread (homemade) and a soft-drilled egg – sometimes the classics are the best. Plus a cappuccino and at the end the famous carrot cake with icing.
Cafe Himmelblau is truly a place where you can have breakfast in peace, chat with friends and eat healthy and delicious food. No wonder everyone loves to go there. The price-performance ratio is also optimal. I have to admit I love their attention to detail. There are small inscriptions of the local name everywhere. Cute!
