Breathing in the fresh, cold air of the mountains and immediately feeling relaxed – that’s exactly what I long for.
About 2.5 hours from Vienna and you feel like you are in a winter wonderland. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical on the way there, but we literally drove through a small tunnel that took us to our little wonderland. Schönberg-Lachtal in Steiermark, Austria to be precise.
The chalet Aconitum exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t have been happier with my choice. From the outside, the cabin looks classic and modern, just like you would imagine your perfect winter cabin to be. Of course everything on the inside was made of wood. When you entered you had so many different feelings that merged into one big smile. It was rustic, modern and very cozy. A place where you can feel at home.
The chalet consisted of 2 floors. On the upper floor was the entrance and the common rooms such as the kitchen and the large open living room with a fireplace – which of course I had to light up immediately. There was also our great balcony with a breathtaking view – as you will see soon. There was also a bathroom and a ski room on that floor.
There were 3 rooms in the grounfloor, each with a double bed. Two of these rooms had a small covered balcony. There was a second bathroom here. The rooms were small but nice. The mattresses were very comfortable and everything was very clean – a big plus. Not a grain of dust, cobwebs or any other kind of dirt. Everything was perfectly clean – other hotels or accommodations can take a page from that. The only thing I was missing here was more pillows – but that’s just my personal opinion.
Let’s come to our magnificent balcony. I honestly stood there every single day and just listened and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Considering it’s a small village made up of different huts and it’s still ski season, it was incredibly quiet. No matter what time of day or night you could always relax 100%. The only noise you heard in the late afternoon was the music from the Alpenstadl, which was only open until 7 p.m.
If you’re a winter sports fan like me, you definitely have to go here, because the ski slope was a 2-minute walk from the chalet. We were just right on the slopes. And opposite ran a connecting piste to the other ski area on the other side of the mountain. So we couldn’t have been any closer to the slopes. And it was definitely worth it because it was the only place where you could enjoy such a beautiful view.
Chalet Acontium was, in short, a dream. The perfect place to enjoy time with friends or family. You are only about 2 hours away from Vienna and it feels like a different world, without worries and stress. – Winter Wonderland.
The hut had many advantages and one small disadvantage. One advantage, I think, was that we had a well-equipped kitchen and were able to prepare every meal ourselves – but of course we also went out to eat a few times. Nevertheless, theoretically we wouldn’t have had to leave the hut at all – except for the nearest grocery store, which was about 20 minutes away by car – that’s when you realize how high up we were. The mini disadvantage was that there was no sauna – it would simply have been the cherry on top of the whole thing. Nevertheless, I love this chalet and, as always, the time has passed too quickly.
