The Demel K.u.K. Hofzuckerbäckerei has been the coffee house for worthy nobles since 1786. It is a traditional coffee house in the heart of Vienna and impresses with its elaborate window display. Traditional sweets are offered, such as the famous Sachertorte, Kaiserschmarren – the Austrians‘ favorite – and other sweets and chocolates.
The cafe offers something unique for every season. The best event is during Christmas time. Because the unique Kaiserschmarrn to go has been available for some time. Yes, you read that right. To go. During Advent you can buy this delicacy in a small shop window next to the entrance. You can also get punch and hot chocolate with whipped cream.
I opted for the large portion of Kaiserschmarrn to go with a hot chocolate with whip. A calorie bomb, but when do you treat yourself to something if not at Christmas time? For me a true experience that doesn’t exist anywhere else in Vienna.
