Hohe Wand petting zoo – in the middle of nature

„Nature is not a place to visit, it is home.“ – Gary Snyder, Tierpark Hohe wand

At the top of the mountain you feel like you’re in another country or maybe even like in another world. That’s exactly how I feel when we go to Hohe Wand and more specific to the little petting zoo. This is about an hour away from Vienna by car. As you approach you can see this huge mountain with its steep, smooth face from afar. To be honest, I get a little scared every time we go up the steep street. But the trip up is definitely worth it.

The hohe wand is a nature reserve and is approximately 60 hectares in size. There are numerous hiking trails, viewing platforms and even a little petting zoo. And that’s exactly where I wanted to go. The entire backdrop speaks for itself and makes this place a very special highlight in the area and in principle the whole of Austria.

Der Streichelzoo Hohe Wand:

The zoo opened in 1993 and has since become a popular destination, attracting both local and international visitors. The park is particularly known for keeping animals in natural enclosures. Here visitors can observe a variety of local animals, including wild boars, deer, chamois and various species of birds. The focus is on protecting and raising animals that are endangered in their natural environment.

A special highlight of the zoo is the petting zoo, where you have the opportunity to pet and feed goats, sheep, small ponies, pigs, llamas and other animals. You can now buy the food in a small bucket at the cash desk. This experience promotes a special connection to nature, whether young or old. The park is well designed, there are large enclosures and also lots of play opportunities for children.

Tolle Aussicht Hohe Wand:

Another notable feature of Hohe Wand is the breathtaking views that can be enjoyed from the numerous viewing points. The Hohe Wand itself rises majestically above the surrounding area and offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the Vienna Basin. On clear days you can see as far as the Vienna city limits. The viewpoints are easily accessible and invite you to enjoy the impressive landscape. – and this is said by someone who doesn’t really like hiking.

A particularly popular place is the “hiking arena”, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the zoo. There are spacious viewing platforms here that invite you to linger. If you want to experience the impressive view even more intensely, you can visit the “Skywalk”, a platform that rises far above the abyss. This attraction provides an unforgettable experience and makes the hearts of adventure seekers beat faster. But be careful, if you are afraid of heights, you should definitely not go on the “Skywalk”.

Wanderungen Hohe Wand:

The region around the Hohe Wand Zoo is a true paradise for hikers and nature lovers. With a well-developed network of hiking trails of varying difficulty levels, there is something for everyone to discover. The hiking trails lead through dense forests, across meadows and offer numerous opportunities to experience local nature up close. Don’t forget good clothes and shoes.

For adrenaline junkies, the Hohe Wand also offers opportunities for via ferrata and paragliding. The “Hiking Guide” via ferrata is one of the most famous in the region and offers a spectacular view of the surrounding landscapes. These sporting activities attract not only experienced mountaineers, but also beginners who want to try their hand under supervision.

Summary:

Hohe Wand petting zoo is more than just a place to observe animals; it is an experience for the whole family that combines nature and adventure. For me personally, the animals are the highlight. You can feed them and sometimes even pet them. The only negative thing is that you can’t pet the bunnies. I thought that was a shame because they were so incredibly sweet. Nevertheless, the zoo also offers a variety of walking/hiking opportunities, even for those – like me – who don’t really like hiking.

Conclusion:

a great place to experience where you can get closer to nature in every possible way

Adress:

try to visit the park in the morning, there are even fewer children there
