Right in the pulsating heart of Vienna, at Hoher Markt 10, stands Joma – a bistro that combines urban chic with Viennese cosiness. As soon as you enter, you can feel the inviting atmosphere, which is characterized by modern design and loving details. The high backrests of the benches and the cleverly placed glass partitions create intimate niches that invite you to linger.
On a sunny but cool morning, I decided to pay a visit to Joma to experience their much-vaunted breakfast. The first rays of sunlight reflected in the marriage fountain opposite as I took my place at the window. The view of Vienna awakening gave the moment a special magic.

the design
Joma is not just a bistro – it is a statement. A place where urban chic meets Viennese cosiness. As soon as you enter, you can feel the well-thought-out design concept: modern, clear and yet warm and inviting. A special highlight are the leather straps with hooks hanging from the ceiling – a creative interpretation of the classic wardrobe. They underline the modern, but at the same time functional design that runs through the entire restaurant. The combination of smooth, clear surfaces and warm materials such as wood and leather gives the Joma a timeless elegance.

The color palette is elegantly restrained, dominated by earthy tones, dark wood and soft gray. There are many large windows, but the interior is a bit darker, the lighting in the joma restaurant is subtle and only indirect lighting is used. I think the atmosphere was very cozy and dim. But I was missing a little more light at the table. The light would have been better for dinner than breakfast.
In summer, the experience extends outside: the Schanigarten directly on the Hoher Markt offers the perfect place to watch the colorful hustle and bustle of Vienna – with a cappuccino in your hand and the sun on your face.

The breakfast menu presented a variety that promised both traditional and modern culinary delights. After a moment’s consideration, I chose a combination of two classics: Eggs Benedict and Shakshuka. Two dishes that couldn’t be more different – and yet both, in their own way, perfect for a successful morning.
Shortly afterwards my table was set with two artfully arranged plates. The Eggs Benedict, served on a toasted English muffin, with tender ham and perfectly poached eggs, covered in a silky hollandaise sauce that had just enough acidity to balance the richness. A slight cut with the fork and the golden yolk flowed over the bread – an image to the gods. The first bite? Creamy, buttery, harmonious – exactly how Eggs Benedict should be.

Next to it was the Shakshuka – an oriental contrast full of warmth and spice. A beautiful light green bowl filled with a fragrant ragout of tomatoes, peppers and chickpeas, refined with harissa and cumin. On top, two poached organic eggs, whose yolks mixed with the spicy sauce. Plus crispy sourdough bread from Öfferl – perfect for soaking up the last remnants of the aromatic sauce. A spoonful of Shakshuka, then a piece of Eggs Benedict – two worlds that came together here in complete harmony.

MY SUMMARY
In summary, I was very positively surprised by the entire experience at Joma. It’s precisely at restaurants like these that I realize how many hidden treasures there are in Vienna and I’m happy to explore almost all of them. I personally like the restaurant very much. I have already mentioned my comment about the light above. The staff was friendly and nice. a very nice place to have brunch in Vienna.
