New Ostermarkt at Schloss Schönbrunn

„The very first Easter taught us this: that life never ends and love never dies.“- Kate McGahan, Ostermarkt Schloss Schönbrunn

When spring awakens in Vienna, there’s hardly a more beautiful place than Schönbrunn Palace to enjoy the first warmer days. What’s particularly exciting: This year’s Easter market (Ostermarkt), set against the imperial backdrop, features a fresh concept and new highlights that set it apart from previous years. I’ve taken a look around and will tell you what you can look forward to.

New market layout for more flair

One of the biggest changes is the layout of the stalls. Instead of a classic row or circle, a kind of „market village“ will be created in 2025, with small alleys that invite you to stroll. This makes the market feel more intimate and offers more opportunities to leisurely stroll through the lovingly decorated stalls. Compared to last year, the Easter market (ostermarkt) is three times as large. The signage has been improved. The stalls all look cuter, and in general, you can tell there’s a completely new concept.

“ … biggest chances in the layout … „

Those who enjoy taking souvenir photos should look forward to the new 12-meter-high „Easter Portal,“ which serves as a striking entrance. Another highlight is the 3.5-meter-high floral Easter egg, decorated with thousands of real blossoms – a perfect photo spot that guarantees a springtime mood!

Culinary diversity and new enjoyment zones

The culinary offerings have also been improved: In addition to traditional specialties such as Easter ham, Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancakes), and handmade chocolates, there are new „Genusswiesen“ (culinary meadows) with comfortable seating. Here, you can relax in the spring sunshine and feast on the diverse offerings.

For me personally, the hot potato was the highlight. Normally, they’re only available at the Advent Market on Rathausplatz, and of course, I had to eat it every time. The potato was also the first stand we queued for. It’s also important to keep in mind that you have to queue everywhere, so it’s best to have cash with you. But don’t worry, there are plenty of ATMs scattered throughout the area where you can withdraw money.

More action for everyone

If you’re looking for a little thrill, or just want the kids to play, there are countless options this year. There’s a nostalgic Ferris wheel, a children’s train, a straw labyrinth, and the creative „Wooden Circus“ craft workshop. New to the line: two boules courts, sure to challenge not only the little ones but also adults.

There are eggs everywhere

Something that, of course, shouldn’t be missing at an Easter market (Ostermarkt) are all the eggs and other decorations you need for the holidays. I was able to get a beautiful egg last year, and luckily, I was able to do the same this year. Taking little things like this back with you makes it a thing you’ll never forget. Nostalgic, I know! In any case, there’s a wide selection of different decorations at the Easter market (Ostermarkt) this year. There’s also a wide selection of stalls offering food tastings and gift ideas.
