„Everything in Thai food is about balance: a balance of heat, acid, sweet, savory and salty“; Restaurant Patara
Travel with me to Bangkok for an evening. But don’t worry, we don’t have to travel far because in the Patara restaurant you feel like you’re in Thailand. Fine Thai cuisine in the middle of Vienna’s 1st district. A restaurant that delights you with gastronomic delights. Patara means something like graceful girl. This is supposedly what they call young ladies in Thailand who look after their family and friends with a lot of dedication. You feel very well treated from the first second, which is why I think the name fits the restaurant very well: PATARA.
From the outside the restaurant looks very elegant and it fits in with the other beautiful old buildings in Vienna. Only the intense purple logo with the subtle golden font gives you an idea of what’s behind the facade. When you enter the Patara restaurant, you immediately see bright colors like orange and purple everywhere. The signature colors of the restaurant. Only after a few seconds, when you have let all the colors sink in, are you greeted in a friendly manner and be taken to your seat.
The interior design is very exotic. The restaurant is divided into 2 levels, which are connected by a mighty black spiral staircase. The entire restaurant is illuminated by indirect lighting, which gives the room a cozy, dim atmosphere. You really feel like you’re in Thailand, even though I’ve never been there personally.
Thai cuisine is characterized by its spicy yet balanced taste. So my expectations were high in terms of taste. As a starter I had the homemade crispy spring rolls with 3 different fillings. For the main course I had the “beef panang”. A tender grilled beef fillet with panang curry and jasmine rice as a side dish. Panang Curry has a soft, sweet taste and therefore goes very well with meat.
For dessert I couldn’t resist and ordered the mango sticky rice. A sweet Thai mango with coconut sticky rice. This was the perfect dish to end the Thai evening at patara restaurant. It was so incredibly delicious that I would have liked to order another portion, but unfortunately there was no more room in my stomach. The highlight of this dessert was that the coconut rice was warm. That was pleasantly surprising.
Patara is really one of the better Thai restaurants in Vienna. You notice that from the first to the last second. The staff was friendly and quick. The prices are in the higher segment, but not unrealistic for fine dining. Definitely worth a visit if you want to leave Vienna quickly and easily and travel to Bangkok.
Conclusion:
a great thai cuisine restaurant
