„Autumn is a second spring, when every leaf is a flower.“ -Albert Camus, Pumpkin Market Franzlbauer
Autumn has officially arrived in Vienna. This means you can finally do all the things that are on your to-do list or that you have saved on Instagram. And here is my first to do from my fall bucket list: visit a pumpkin market. Therefore, welcome to the Franzlbauer pumpkin market.
There are so many pumpkin markets around Vienna, but this one impressed me the most. Maybe it’s also because of the huge bucket pyramid. Who knows? In any case, the Franzlbauer is located about 15 minutes from Vienna, in the municipality of Andrä-Wördern, directly after Klosterneuburg. So pretty close to Vienna.
The Franzlbauer is a farmer who specializes in pumpkins and watermelons, depending on the season of course. And every year he decorates his yard with a variety of pumpkins and attracts the Viennese out of the city. But apparently the market is already so well known that many foreigners want to visit it too.
What I didn’t know, for example, but which is logical, is that you can buy pumpkins there. And so much more. They even offer warm dishes made from pumpkins. For me the highlight was all the different types of pumpkin that Franzlbauer offers. I was pleasantly surprised and I hope you are too when you look at the next pictures.
If you go through the gate into the inner courtyard you will find yourself in a true pumpkin paradise. There are a variety of pumpkins everywhere that you’ve probably never seen in a supermarket before. Of course I had to take some with me too. For each type of pumpkin there is also the name and the best preparation next to it. My favorite pumpkin here was the “Baby Boo”. A little white pumpkin that looks so cute.
Apart from pumpkins, other products are also offered, such as ornamental corn in different colors. Funny shaped tomatoes and so much more. I think everyone will find what they are looking for here, even if they may not have come here with this intention at first.
Summary:
I think the Franzlbauer pumpkin market was great. The location is fairly close to Vienna and easy to reach by car. There is enough free parking and the area is very quiet. The Franzlbauer has now become better known, but that doesn’t stop you from having a great experience. I’ll definitely be back next year.
Conclusion:
a must have on every fall bucket list
