Restaurant Matteo – pasta everywhere you look

„Life is a combination of magic and pasta.“- Federico Fellini, Restaurant Matteo

A restaurant that’s all about pasta. The Restaurant Matteo is located in the 7th district in Vienna. It is the owner named Matteo’s second restaurant. The first restaurant specialized in pizza and this one specializes in pasta. Enjoy the taste of Sicily on your plate directly in Vienna.

From the outside, the restaurant Matteo looks very friendly. a simple facade with large windows and a red neon sign. The interior is not large, but rather cozy. The furnishings are very reserved and simple. The highlight of the room is the beautiful wall painting, which fits well with the overall theme of the restaurant. Small other details and accessories remind you of the Italian flair.

The menu is manageable and varies often. The Matteo restaurant is actually an Italian tapas bar. This means that the portions are slightly smaller and are therefore perfect for tasting or sharing with friends. And of course we did that too. As a starter we took the antipasti selection. Consisting of olives, 2 different types of pesto, parmesan and foccaccia bread. We also decided on “la nostra caprese”. This was a burrata with pistachio pesto and small tomatoes.

As a main course I once ordered the “i nostri aglio e olio”. This is my favorite dish when I’m all at home and having a self-care evening. But with an extra dash of garlic. Here the pasta consisted of spaghetti, garlic cream, parmesan and chili oil. I wanted a little more flavor here. The second dish was a total surprise. The “Ravioli in Puglia”. Consisting of ravioli filled with burrata, prosciutto and pistaccio pesto. The taste was very tasty. That creamy burrata and that crunch from the Proccuito. Brilliant!

The presentation of the food was really nice. The different colorful plates and the small portions harmonized very well. Overall, I would say that Restaurant Matteo is a very simple and traditional pasta restaurant.
