„I´m just here to bowl and have a good time, not to win! Well, maybe to win a little.“, Strike City Bowling
The Shopping City Süd (SCS), one of the largest shopping centers in Austria and fortunately right next to Vienna, has opened an exciting new attraction: a modern bowling alley. Perhaps a little inconspicuous at first glance, the new bowling alley is located directly behind the new slot machines, at entrance 1.
At first you see colorful lights everywhere and hear lots of people cheering. I’ve walked past the bowling alley so many times that I really wanted to try it out myself. The facility looks clean and modern. There is an electronic control for each lane, where you can play many different types of bowling. You can also order drinks and food from there. There is a mood everywhere and the first impression is positive.
Reception wasn’t so easy to find at first. You should know that you have to go past the first checkout at the entrance. The bowling alleys are all new and great to play. However, the seating area directly behind is a bit tight. You share a bunk with the neighboring train. Furthermore, in my opinion, there were far too many people there, so you had to keep snaking past until you got to the place. A little more space would have been nice when there is a lot of empty and unused space behind it.
We decided on classic bowling. It was just a shame that you couldn’t change the names anymore because we had not enough time. The drinks menu is manageable. There is a small selection. You can tell the selection is geared more towards young people because there is a good selection of different energy drinks. Due to limited time, we didn’t look at the food menu.
Sadly there were some down sides to the fun part. I have to say I was really looking forward to bowling, but over all there were some disappointments with the whole experience. The new bowling alley looks modern, but the service just wasn’t up to the bowling fun.
Here are the details to the down sides:
You are told to be there 15 minutes beforehand. We were. Then we were told to wait. No problem either. Then, on our own initiative, we asked about the shoes. Then we were told to go to laine 8, but the laines are not clearly signed. After we found our lane, other people were still playing despited our reservateted time already started. Longe story short – there is no employe who is cheking the lanes and therefore people can and do play overtime on the expance of others. It would not be that of a problem if we had planed more time, but when you shedule 60 minutes of game time and you loose 15 minutes because of others misbehaving, it shortens the funpart. Addistionaly the lane was closed after 5 minutes of playing because the people who played bevore us paid at the counter. So we had to go back to the counter to start our time slot. A very annoying start to a game. 20 minutes later we were finally able to start playing.
Although this might had been a series of unfortunated events, it still sticks badly to the experience.
I think you can have a very nice time there, but additional employees would help to make the experience equal joyfull for all people. In my conclusion I would play there again but on an non buisy timeslot.
Conclusion:
could be a nice experience
