The most beautiful Christkindlmarkt in Vienna

The statement Christmas market that everyone around the world knows and definitely wants to visit.

Welcome to what is probably the most beautiful event of the year: the Christmas market at Rathausplatz – the ultimate Christmas market in Vienna. Whether for Viennese people or tourists worldwide, everyone knows this unique market. It is not without reason that the city of Vienna tries to make the market even more spectacular every year.

From the typical Christmas market there is a small winter wonderland on the right and there is even an ice skating rink on the left. And as a highlight of the whole market, apart from the huge illuminated Christmas tree of course, there is a beautiful carousel for young and old. This year there is even a pink flying heart that floats over the entire market with a little musical interlude.

The Christmas market offers something for everyone. For the typical Viennese it is a statement and I think everyone is proud that we have such a beautiful market, but you have to admit it is very touristy because of its popularity. That’s why the Viennese prefer to go to quieter markets where you can drink your punch or mulled wine in peace.

Nevertheless, I always take a little something with me from every market I go to. Just to keep reminding myself of the atmosphere and the moment. This year I fell in love with a special hand-made Christmas ball. Of course, the market offers more than just balls. There’s a little bit of everything – hot beverages and food, christmas shopping and lots of christmas joy.

For me, the Christmas market at the town hall is simply part of the Christmas season. Yes it is very touristy and crowded, but the lights and the whole Christmas atmosphere make up for it. So if you haven’t been to Rathausplatz at Christmas time, you should go as soon as possible, because this year we unfortunately have the shortest Advent season in a long time.
