„Relax like your life depends on it“, Therme Erding

Welcome to the largest thermal spa in the world. The Therme Erding is celebrating an unforgettable 25 years this year. On October 3rd, 1999, the Erding thermal baths just outside Munich, Germany opened their doors for the first time. With the aim of offering visitors unique, exotic holidays without long flights. This wellness oasis in the middle of Bavaria can be reached in about 4.5 hours by car from Vienna.

40 pools and water basins, 28 breathtaking slides and 35 saunas and steam baths leave nothing to be desired. Four huge, opening glass domes allow you to swim outdoors indoors on warm days. With three different areas, the largest thermal spa in the world offers a diverse range of activities for all age groups. I was there for 3 days and really enjoyed the thermal baths.

Due to the cell phone ban and privacy concerns, I wasn’t able/allowed to take any pictures myself. So I took these from the internet.

Therme Erding - Thermal spa & adventure pool:

This is the family area of Therme Erding. Unlimited fun and lots of action await you here. Starting with the Galaxy slide world indoors. Every age group will find the perfect slide. Each slide has its own name and my favorites are the Magic Eye and Speed Racer. The Magic Eye is the longest closed tube slide in the world. The slide is 360m long and 22m high. You can drive with either a 1 or 3 tire. Speed racer is pure fun factor. At a length of 130m and a height of 14m you can fight a sliding duel. It’s just fun to see your partner constantly losing. 😊

There is of course even more in this area of the thermal baths. There is also a large wave pool and various indoor and outdoor pools. Events often take place in the outdoor pool, such as summer parties, concerts and so on. A good atmosphere is inevitable here. Health baths are also offered here, as well as mask distribution every few hours. You can choose between different masks and it’s funny to see everyone walking around like that.

Therme Erding - VitalOasis:

This area of the thermal baths is the textile relaxation area of the thermal baths. Ages 16 and over can enter this Asian-inspired wellness area. The VitalOase is particularly suitable for everyone who is new to the sauna and would like to test out sauna use in the textile area first. You can relax here a little more quietly than the adventure pool. Anyone who appreciates the positive aspects of a sauna but doesn’t want to take off their swimwear will find a place to relax in the VitalOase’s various textile saunas. A total of 8 different saunas with a temperature of 38-75 degrees.

My highlight in this area is the vital bath in ancient Roman style. As if you were in the former Rome. The glass roof over the pool of the Roman villa can even be opened so that you can see the sun or the starry sky.

Therme Erding - VitalTherme & saunas:

This is my absolute favorite area in the thermal baths. Here, sauna is completely redefined. This area is also accessible for ages 16 and older, but is clothing-free. There are a total of 24 different saunas in this area, each with a specific theme. There are also many different infusions at different times. If you’ve never had an infusion in your life, you’ve never really been in the sauna. But if you think these are boring, you’re wrong. I loved them so much, my favorites were the incense infusion in the meditation sauna and the flag infusion in the Celtic throne sauna. I think this experience can never be topped by any other sauna. Incredible!

But of course there is more on offer here, there are various pools to cool off in and a large one in the middle of the entire area. You can relax there for hours, including two pool bars. Lying down with bubbles makes the whole thing even more relaxing. It may be that some people are a little shy at first because you are naked here and not wearing a bikini/swimming trunks. But you realize that you are among adults and don’t have to feel uncomfortable at all. Everyone wears a towel or bathrobe

Therme Erding - Bookable lounges:

This year we booked a lounger for the first time, called the paradise lounger. It has to be said that the thermal baths are very busy and you can tell that mainly from the loungers. These are reserved or occupied immediately. We didn’t want to stress ourselves out in the morning, so we reserved loungers in advance. These were in the sauna area on the 1st floor. The sauna area is basically quiet, but it was even quieter up there. The loungers were softer and you had more space and privacy. We will definitely book again in the future.

At the cash desk at the entrance we just had to show our reservation, then pay for everything and then get extra wristbands again. Because you can only enter this area with a reservation. There are also other bookable lounges such as various suites, premium lounges with a bottle of sparkling wine or various relaxation oases. The prices vary depending on the lounge.

Therme Erding - Outdoor area:

Based on my feeling, I would say that the entire outside area of the thermal baths is just as big as the entire inside area. Accessible at any time, no matter what time of year. In summer you should be prepared for the fact that almost every lounger here will be occupied because the crowds are very high. In the textile sector there are also various slides in the outdoor area, which are incredibly fun. The rainbow racers are the indoor equivalent of the space racers. Only here you slide down on your stomach on a mat. There is also the big wave. Feel the adrenaline in free fall together or alone on a tire.

Outside there are VIP areas such as the “Alm Chalets”, but also a volleyball court, various bars and restaurants. In the sauna area there is a palm beach and also private chalets.

Therme Erding - Restaurants / food spots:

Of course, there is a large selection of different food spots throughout the thermal baths. In the adventure pool & the vital oasis there are more options for quick snacks such as pizza or lángos. There are also restaurants for a normal meal. In the sauna area there are 2 different restaurants Veneziano and Samui. In Samui I always order the sushi bowl. Matches the whole holiday feeling.

Therme Erding - Anything else:

The Therme Erding also has a hotel that looks like a real ship. Very fitting for the overall theme. Very practical if you want to spend several days just in the thermal baths.

Every area of Therme Erding can be reached via a turnstile. I also think it’s great that the areas are „separated by color“. So that you know which area you are in. I have to admit that I often got lost the first few times I was there. Because I wasn’t used to seeing such a big thermal bath, let alone so many people.

Summary:

The Erding thermal baths simply have a place in my heart. The first vacation with my husband was there and I remember it like it was yesterday. I have to go there at least once a year. As I said, I love the sauna area because we can just relax there and be by ourselves. But there still has to be a bit of action on vacation, so we go to the slides at least once. It’s all about the balance.

The thermal baths are always an experience that you want to repeat immediately. There is so much on offer that it’s impossible to do everything in one day, we couldn’t even do it in 3 days. You can relax, get an adrenaline rush and then relax again. – really great and it never gets boring. The thermal baths open at 10 a.m. but you should still be there at 9:30/45 a.m. because believe me, otherwise you might have to fight for your loungers, if you didn´t do a reservation.

The Erding thermal spa is always the first thermal spa I recommend to my friends or family when they ask me where they should go on vacation. With its proximity to Munich, the location is perfect for a long weekend. So off to the thermal baths

Conclusion:

clearly the best thermal bath
